Program delivery update: National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2021

November 16, 2022

On November 16, 2022, IRCC will switch to the 2021 version of the National Occupational Classification (NOC). This means that the current NOC 2016 skill type and skill level structure (NOC 0, A, B, C and D) will be replaced by a 6-category system representing the training, education, experience and responsibilities needed to work in an occupation.

We are updating our program delivery instructions to reflect the coming changes for the following lines of business:

  • Canadian experience class
  • federal skilled trades
  • federal skilled workers
  • out-of-status construction workers
  • economic classes (non-Express Entry)

Additional instructions related to NOC 2021 will be provided for remaining economic lines of business at a later date.
