The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW) comprises of skilled workers with professionally recognized experience who are chosen to apply for permanent residency based on their ability to contribute to the Canadian economy.
Selection Criteria
CIC assess all its applicants from a grid comprised of 6 sections based on a total of 100 points. The passing grade for acceptance into the program is 67/100. Applicants will be assessed on the following factors:

1 – Age

  • A maximum of 12 points can be awarded based on your age on the day your application is received by the Centralized Intake Office

2 – Education

  • You must prove that you earned a Canadian diploma/certificate or prove that your foreign education is valid and equal to a completed Canadian credential by submitting and Educational Credential Assessment
  • You can be awarded a maximum of 25 points based on your highest level of education attained

3 – Language

  • Meet the minimum language requirements (CLB 7 for speaking, listening, reading and writing)
  • To get points for your second official language, you must meet the minimum level of CLB 5 in all four language areas
  • A maximum of 28 points can be awarded based on your language ability and that of your spouse (if applicable)

4 – Work Experience

  • You must have acquired at least 1 year in the last 10 years of skilled work experience (NOC 0,A,B)
  • A maximum of 15 points can be awarded based on the number of years of your skilled work experience

5 – Adaptability

  • A maximum of 10 points can be awarded based on your previous work/study in Canada, your arranged employment, the previous work/study of your spouse (if applicable) as well as his/her language ability, and your connections in Canada

6 – Arranged Employment

  • A maximum of 10 points can be awarded if you have a permanent, full-time job offer from a Canadian employer in an NOC skill level 0, A or B occupation
